Definition
Dry-pipe systems protect unheated spaces — loading docks, cold stores, car park ramps, attic voids — where wet piping would freeze. The dry alarm valve trips on loss of air pressure, releasing water into the piping. Typical water delivery delay is 30–60 s; designers must account for this in the most remote area calculation.
